The Differences Between Snapchat and other Storytelling Apps

The Differences Between Snapchat and other Storytelling Apps

There’s been a lot of buzz lately over comparing Snapchat, Instagram Stories, Messenger Day and Facebook Stories. In today’s Facebook LIVE I talk about MY experiences with the two main ones that I’ve been using for almost two years now, and just a few takeaways for you.

While there aren’t many, there are some differences between Snapchat and the other storytelling apps that I talk about in this video.

Differences:
  • Audience
  • Retention
  • Community & Engagement
Similarities:
  • Creativity
  • Stats & Analytics

Those are the main ones I cover in this video…

In the end, you’re the one who decides what:

  • you’re desired outcome is
  • who your audience is and where they live
  • what your message is
  • why you’re even using the storytelling apps in the first place
  • etc. etc.

There ARE a lot of options out there today, so follow this list I wrote here to determine what your actions may (or may not) be. You’ll know when you’ve hit the right one; it will be the one with the most engagement, and fun and overall great experience!

Storytelling App Madness

Storytelling App Madness

Hello my friends of the internet! Woo-weee!! What a week!! It was attack of the storytelling apps on social media this week and madness prevailed! Facebook globally rolled out Facebook stories this week…

Facebook Stories

… and you would have thought Elvis had come back from the dead or something everyone has been in an uproar!

Those who are in my social media space were excited to FINALLY be getting it; those who have no idea what it is find it annoying and want to know how to get rid of it and there are those in the middle there somewhere who haven’t even noticed it yet!

From Facebook

We want to make it fast, fun and easy for people to share creative photos and videos with whomever they choose, for however long they choose — and the more we share with each other, the more open and connected our community can be. Today we’re starting to roll out a new camera with effects and two additional ways to share the photos and videos you take.

Well, it hasn’t really been fun, because almost EVERYONE I’ve come across (so far anyway) is complaining; those that use it don’t seem to overly care for it, and those that don’t use it don’t seem to overly want it. Ahhh, the joys of change!

This week’s video is sort of my overview of the storytelling app madness…

Once we’ve all calmed down over the situation, it really ISN’T as bad as all that. What TRULY matters is how you intend on using it, knowing who you want to serve and knowing where those you want to serve spend their time on social media. It’s really a rather simple formula.

Snapchat for Lawyers Accountants and Other Professionals

Snapchat for Professionals

Today, my friends of the internet, we are talking about Snapchat for Professionals! Professionals such as lawyers, accountants, doctors, notaries, etc. You see, there is ROOM in social media for this genre as well, even though many of them still do not think so. Once they see and experience first-hand the benefits of success social media marketing I believe strategies such as I explain in this video will become popular.

You see, every business owner, be it large or small, has a story worth telling; worth sharing. And I would venture to guess most business owners, large or small, need some form of marketing to accomplish their goals for their business; whether that be to make a lot of money, serve a lot of people, or, hopefully, do both.

I preface this by saying, I most CERTAINLY don’t know law over and above “The Good Wife” and I am not in that scope of professionals by any stretch of the imagination. What I DO know however, is the capacity to strengthen ones marketing goals by using social media. I also, mostly, understand people and know the importance, and value, of telling ones story.

That being said, in this video I share my vision for how lawyers and other professionals can grow their business, and serve a lot of people, using live broadcasting social networks, like Snapchat. Please forgive the audio in this video, my mic had a mind of it’s own that day.

I hope you see the value in this as much as I do! If you have any lawyer friends, or accountant friends, I’d be honoured if you would share this post with them! I would LOVE their input and love the opportunity to be able to share with them more in-depth strategies as well! Just like abovethelaw.com said…

“Law firms using Snapchat for publishing commentary and engaging their audience? Sounds a little crazy, but so did law firms using Twitter and sharing news in 140 characters just five years ago.”

Snapchat How To’s for 2017

snapchat how to's for 2017

Today we’re going to talk about snapchat and some recent updates. There have been some updates to Snapchat and there were a few people [in my circles] who felt lost and asked me to please make a video, so I said sure.

Some of the updates include:

  • A change to the “ghost” and where you find your settings
  • Discovery has some slight changes
  • Chat groups (I don’t really talk much about that, but refer to this video and you’ll learn lots there!)

So… [my video transcript for those that can’t watch the video]

“…right here when you tap on my bitmoji face that’s the new version of what used to be the ghost in the middle. I’m just going to tap on my face [which is weird] and here you come to the main settings screen. So as you can see you can edit your bitmoji now right from this place, which I don’t want to at the moment. The main settings are still at the gear wheel [top right corner]. Here’s something not a lot of people know about and that’s clearing cache function. You can see I’ve scrolled right down to the bottom to get to it. A lot of people have memory card issues using Snapchat so when you clear the cache that just clears out some of the stuff that’s being held in your memory that you don’t necessarily need anymore. That’s one of the biggest changes, this bitmoji here on the left as opposed to the ghost that used to be in the middle. I’m just going to take my stylus here and swipe right and those are the messages, that hasn’t changed, and swiping to the left here’s your stories, and then discovery is one step further. So that’s changed a little bit. Somebody asked me how to send a picture or a video here in chat so I’m just going to click on the big record button, I’m not going to actually send anything, but I’m going to click on my friends Andrew and Pete and all you do is tap on the little icon that shows a picture, here in the bottom left, and then your photo gallery opens up. You can simply tap on that icon and you would hit this little send button here in the bottom and send. If you want to send a video simply tap on the record button here in the middle and then just hit record like normal, you get a 10-second window of opportunity to say something in private that you would like to say and then hit send. I’m not going to this is just for example purposes only. This is the main screen, that hasn’t changed, swiping right, here are my messages, swipe left are your stories and your discovery. The only real difference is that the bitmoji icon is now how you get to your main settings…”

Snapchat vs. Instagram Stories; Why You Don’t Need to Choose

Snapcchat vs. Instagram Stories

Why You Don’t Need to Choose Between Snapchat and Instagram Stories

Hello my fabulous friends of the Internet, today I’d like to talk about…

THE GREAT DEBATE

That is, Snapchat vs. Instagram Stories.

First, things first, I truly don’t believe there is a debate; I think that EVEN THOUGH these two platforms appear quite similar, time will show that they are BOTH very valuable to the world of online and social media marketers, as well as those simply wanting to connect in a deeper and more meaningful way in today’s world of bullsh*t and weirdness.

So, here’s how I break it down…

I’ve been reading, and listening, and here is what some of the experts are saying; people like Jay Baer of convinceandconnect.com have said; “Snapchat has a user base that rivals Instagram, and a passion index that exceeds Instagram’s, especially among younger users“, and Gary Vaynerchuck said in episode 222 of #askgaryvee that [4:19] “I don’t think Instagram stories kills Snapchat, but I definitely think it may slow down the migration of 35-55 year olds over to the platform if they can use Instagram to feed that kind of storytelling

So, you can see, there are victories for both sides. As I said in my video, let’s just play nice in the sandbox, there’s room for everyone there! I truly believe it will come down to a matter of personal choice. YES, there are analytics and all kinds of things of that nature that can be observed and dealt against. As a practitioner and EDUCATOR for the “olds” I like to teach the people what they need to know for A) what is easiest for them (so that they DO IT) and B) reaching where their audience / target market is at.

So, for many 50+ entrepreneurs that could mean Instagram stories. I have this funny gut feeling though that this is not the end of Snapchat, not even for that demographic. Look at Twitter, and how it used to be a “young man’s game”. This stat is a little bit older [Twitter’s not what it used to be sadly] but the fastest growing demographic on THAT social network is the 55-64 y/o’s. Just sit on that for a bit. In the end, just like we as people, DEFINITELY we as entrepreneurs; social media will be ever evolving; growing and changing and becoming BETTER. Thankfully the battle seems to have died down a little over the last few days. Snapchat vs. Instagram stories, I guess in the end, you decide which one suits your purposes. Me? I am partial to Snapchat … for today anyway!
