Why Local Businesses Should Use Instagram Stories

Instagram Stories has an exciting, relatively new, feature that is the perfect reason why every local business should be using it!

First of all, you may be asking what are the differences between Instagram Stories and your regular (hopefully consistent) Instagram posts.

Instagram Stories is the row of “bubbles” you see at the top of your Instagram feed, that look like this …

You create them by tapping on the camera pointed out here …

When that opens up, you get to choose from one of the follow ways of recording your story …

The magic happens once you start creating your stories using one of these five creative outlets. The reason why you want to be using Instagram Stories for your local business is for the location based tagging you can do.

When I learned how this worked I started getting incredible amounts of views, up to 75%+ MORE, locally targeted! Here is an example of how I use it:

The story itself is surrounding my work as a social media manager; so now, my city knows what I do, and they know where they can find out more about my work, as I also put my website on the story via text. This is not a clickable link as I unfortunately don’t have the update yet where those watching can “Swipe Up” to connect to the link; but hopefully that is coming soon.

Do you see the potential here? Let’s say you are a car dealership having a sale! Use Instagram Stories when going on a test drive with someone, or show around the showroom or lot, location tag your story and WATCH your targeted local views rise significantly!

Or, you are a local restaurant, bar, bank, mortgage broker, realtor, retail store … the list goes ON and ON as to the effectiveness this function carries for almost any type of business! You simply must start using it! Don’t be shy, everyone starts somewhere. Share the story of that day, of a client’s victory (with their permission of course), of some hardship perhaps (within reason and using common sense), of the staff at an event, or a fundraiser you are doing, etc. etc..

There are metrics available on those stories (for business accounts), so you can see details on how many people saw your story, engaged with it, how far did it reach; and more!

I have a new and improved appreciation for Instagram these last few months, and especially Instagram Stories. They have improved greatly upon their creativity in an effort to stay up to date with Snapchat. I still maintain my position that BOTH are valuable (I blogged about that last year) to the business owner and entrepreneur, and quite often it’s simply a matter of personal preference.

In the end, it is simply another AMAZING free social media marketing tool that you as a local business owner can use to drive traffic into your store and increase value for your customer and sales for your bottom line.

The Differences Between Snapchat and other Storytelling Apps

There’s been a lot of buzz lately over comparing Snapchat, Instagram Stories, Messenger Day and Facebook Stories. In today’s Facebook LIVE I talk about MY experiences with the two main ones that I’ve been using for almost two years now, and just a few takeaways for you.

While there aren’t many, there are some differences between Snapchat and the other storytelling apps that I talk about in this video.

Differences:
  • Audience
  • Retention
  • Community & Engagement
Similarities:
  • Creativity
  • Stats & Analytics

Those are the main ones I cover in this video…

In the end, you’re the one who decides what:

  • you’re desired outcome is
  • who your audience is and where they live
  • what your message is
  • why you’re even using the storytelling apps in the first place
  • etc. etc.

There ARE a lot of options out there today, so follow this list I wrote here to determine what your actions may (or may not) be. You’ll know when you’ve hit the right one; it will be the one with the most engagement, and fun and overall great experience!

Hello my friends of the internet, today I’m going over the latest update major update for Instagram.

If you are not using Instagram yet to market your business I strongly strongly recommend you start to, or, up your game on this great social network. There are so many things that set Instagram apart from the other big social networks, this latest update being just ONE thing; engagement is strong and reach is great! I LOVE the Instagram analytics system as well. Here is a great Instagram guide, if you don’t have one yet. This is not mine, but one by one of my mentors; Sue B. Zimmerman…she is THE Instagram Expert!

Some interesting stats for the marketers out there:

By 2017, 70.7 percent of U.S. companies will use Instagram for marketing, edging out Twitter for the first time

60% of the top brands on Instagram use a consistent filter [I know I do]

75% of Instagram users take action, such as visiting a website, after looking at an Instagram advertising post

Posts with at least one hashtag average 12.6% more engagement

…you get the idea. I’m a HUGE fan of Instagram.

Instagram Stories and Twitter LIVE Updates

So much is happening in social media; Instagram Stories LIVE and Twitter LIVE updates, as well as some Snapchat updates. Trust me I’m probably not even touching on all of the latest updates, but these are the ones that are really standing out to me that I intend on using and learning so that i can in turn teach you!

I hope that you are already on all of these platforms that I mention in this video, but if not, stay tuned to the end of the video as I have something really exciting to tell you about!

So, with Instagram Stories you can now go LIVE! Just like you are getting used to Facebook LIVE, where somebody comes on and does a live broadcast, that same thing happens now in Instagram Stories! The big difference with Instagram Stories is that once the broadcaster is finished, the broadcast goes away. The only alternative to having a recording of the Instagram Stories LIVE is if you record yourself creating it from an outside source. If you’re not already building a loyal following on Instagram this is something that you’re going to want to ramp up in 2017 because grabbing their attention with that LIVE on demand style video broadcast is just amazing for marketers! Relatable Stories is one of your keys to 2017 social media marketing success!

Simply push the LIVE button and start connecting with your audience! Truth time, I haven’t tried this yet, but I think this could potentially be a GREAT way to GROW your Twitter audience quite quickly, if you don’t have a very large following yet.
