Meditation that Works

I was challenged by my good friend Kellie this week to try meditation that works, instead of the inconsistent and infrequent variety (like I HAVE been doing).  While I have practiced meditation every so often, I’m not consistent with it … like, AT ALL.  🙁  She suggested I mediate for 30 minutes … just to start with, and increase my time and frequency from there.  I said “KELLIE, 30  minutes?!” … that seems like an awfully long time to me!  She explained to me that the 10 minutes I HAD been doing was really not enough time for it to be really effective.  Now, truthfully any time meditating is more effective than not meditating at all, but still, if you’re going to do something, you may as well do it properly; have it be effective, right?!

So, here’s what happened … I’m going to be REALLY honest with you now … this is what happened in my first session of 30 minute meditation:

Yup, that’s right … I FELL ASLEEP!!  (ugh, oh Lorri … )

Now, OF COURSE sleeping is NOT meditating, and I will keep practicing until I can do 30 minutes without sleeping as there are really just SO many benefits to meditation!

Here is something from Huffington Post that I found on meditation:

“Studies show that meditation is associated with improvement in a variety of psychological areas, including stress, anxiety, addiction, depression, eating disorders and cognitive function, among others. There’s also research to suggest that meditation can reduce blood pressure, pain response, stress hormone levels and even cellular health.”

So, as you can see, it will be very worth my while to practice this until I’m able to not only NOT fall asleep, but to make it a habit, a really great meditation habit.
